I came across this term in a conversation today and barely held back a guffaw. An islamic democracy is rather self contradictory, an oxymoron etc., no? Any religious democracy inherently and quite insistently overrides Lincoln's then quote now adage, "of the people, by the people and for the people", with the more suitably flexible "of god, by god and for god" or to be more precise "of our current interpretation of this ancient, yet frequently revised book, by our current interpretation of this ancient, yet frequently revised book and for our current interpretation of this ancient, yet frequently revised book".
Religious people are quite mad.
P.S. Some people might call me hypocritical, but I'm just trying to get my point across :)
