This is a list of Chinese light/web novels that have been adapted into donghua (Chinese anime). I'm mainly looking at Wuxia, Xianxia, and Xuanhuan novels.
This is a work in progress.

Lord Xue Ying / I Eat Tomatoes | Hero: Xue Ying Xue Ying is a prince of a small barony who suddenly finds himself becoming baron at the age of 6 (or was it 9?) when his parents are captured. He is however left with an inheritance of cultivation techniques that he uses to rise step by step in the cultivation world in order to rescue his parents and protect his infant brother. Things then start taking epic proportions … There are currently 3 seasons in this anime. The animation is not the greatest, but is definitely better than the norm. Facial animations are usually annoyingly poor in Donghua; but they're surprisingly tolerable in this one. Some of the fight scenes in particular are really well choreographed. I've sat through one season thus far and it's definitely worth the watch, especially if you've read the novels a while ago as in my case. The voice actors are decent too. | |
Swallowed Star / I Eat Tomatoes | Hero: Luo Feng The story employs the cultivation trope in a refreshing sci-fi/kaiju setting. Earth has been attacked by a virus that triggers a bunch of mutations in all creatures. This leads to humanity being overrun by the animal kingdom until a cultivation system is discovered which helps humans unlock their inner powers. The story is only kinda sci-fi initially after which it reverts to the usual cultivation tropes. The world building is pretty decent though. One of the best of I Eat Tomatoes' works. While some of the CG work is decent, the animation in general is sub-par. The anime is 2 seasons old and, thanks to the storyline, is worth the watch. |
