A Welsh director helming an Indonesian martial arts flick. If that isn't tell you that the product is going to be weird and off the beaten track, then please read on.

The Raid is a mostly plotless, mindless, action flick with over the top violence and bloodshed. A bunch of well trained policemen are unknowingly tasked by their superior to raid an apartment complex that openly provides safe harbour for extremely violent psychopaths. Their objective is to apprehend the owner of the complex and to arrest all its residents. Things, however, do not go according to plan. What follows is about 80 minutes of a combination of gunfights and brutal martial arts from the top draw.

As mentioned before, there is no plot of substance. All we get is lots of ass-kicking and if you, like me, enjoy that, then this flick will prove entertaining. It could, of course, have been a lot better if woven into a good plot without so many holes and without so many repetitions that it becomes a little monotonous at time. However, that really isn't what is for sale here.

Recommended viewing for action and martial arts fans.
