I watched Pixar's Up last week and I must say that it was a big disappointment considering all the hype surrounding it. Even though it was released in May, it is currently ranked #39 in IMDb's Top 250 list which I find rather flabbergasting.
The movie itself has the somewhat interesting premise of a septuagenarian trying to fulfil his wife's childhood dream of adventure, that of travelling (and living next) to Paradise Falls in South America. Due to budgetary and other constraints, his attempt involves tying a large number of helium balloons (alá Lawn-chair Larry?) to his house and literally floating over to South America.
Unfortunately, the interesting premise does not transition into a solid screenplay. While just about every Pixar movie I've seen also involves adults into its target audience, Up, dwindles into a series of cartoon-esque plot-holes wrapped in semi-decent animation, clichés and occasional flashes of humour.
It's probably still worth watching with the family. But, I wouldn't bother going to the theatre for this one.
