Jojo's bizarre Bizarre adventure

Submitted by Druss on Sat, 2010-04-24 00:06

For the last couple of days, I've been reading a manga named JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's alright, I guess - decent premise with slipshod execution. But something that I initially perceived as humourous became disconcertingly distracting enough for me to post about it. This certain something is to do with the majority of the character names in the manga being named after western music artists.

Anna Russell: Comedienne par excellence

The following are a bunch of Anna Russell videos that showcase some of her wonderful wit. While, the older videos (especially the analysis of the Ring cycle) were taken when she was well past her prime, they are still very entertaining, if not as good as the audio version recorded much earlier.

Marty Friedman interview + band recommendations

I came across an interview with Marty Friedman (look for edition 18) on the BOSS website. It covers a variety of topics including how he got together with Jason Becker, how he got the Megadeth gig and so on. Towards the end, when asked to recommend bands to listen to, he lists the following (all J-rock bands):

Nodame Cantabile - Paris Hen

I've been a huge fan of Nodame Cantabile ever since it was released. I've watched the live-action series, read the manga and also watched series one of the anime. This review deals with the anime sequel, dubbed "Nodame Cantabile: Paris Hen", which deals with Nodame and Chiaki's stay in Paris.

You should probably not be reading further if you are yet to see the first series.

SotD: Jeff Beck - Scatterbrain

Submitted by Druss on Thu, 2009-02-19 23:49

Today's song of the day is off Jeff Beck's 1975 album Blow by Blow. Titled "Scatterbrain", this track is one of my favourite all time tracks.

It starts off with a jazzy drum intro which subsequently builds up into this high speed rhythm into which is merged Beck's intense driving verse riff... a series of pressure-building scales that are just about to take you off into space. The second repeat also sees the keyboards being introduced, playing the same scales.
