Monty Python's Life of Brian

Submitted by Druss on Tue, 2012-11-06 22:39

Absolute classic and a must watch.

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad.
Other things just make you swear and curse.
When you're chewing on life's gristle,
Don't grumble, give a whistle,
And this'll help things turn out for the best, and...

Life's a piece of shit,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true.
You'll see it's all a show,
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.

Män som hatar kvinnor / The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

This is the Swedish adaptation of Stieg Larsson's book of the same name. I watched it a couple of years ago when it came out and rated it a 6. However, now that I've read the books, I decided to give it a rewatch. Oddly, I could barely remember much of it. But, I do now know that it's quite a ridiculous adaptation of a good book. There are way too many changes and some of them are drastic. Characters are killed off. The police are involved in matters which were hushed up in the book. The Daniel Craig adaptation appears to be a work far truer to the book than this one.

Secret of my Success, The

A funny comedy starring Marty McFly and Supergirl, The Secret of my Success is a great watch. The plot really isn't anything to write home about. But the acting is decent and the comedy of errors (usually something that I dislike) is actually hilarious in some bits.

Recommended.

P.S. There's a lot of sexual innuendo throughout this movie.

Safety Not Guaranteed

An interesting plot that revolves around dysfunction, Safety Not Guaranteed could have been far better than it eventually turned out. The story is about a reporter and two college-going interns who take a trip to a small town to chase up an ad in the classifieds looking for a partner interested in travelling back in time. So far, so good.

Magic Mike

With a rather dull storyline which had its moments, Magic Mike is not really going to be remembered for much besides Matthew McConaughey who was surprisingly good. However, the rest of the cast was pretty average, especially one of the central characters named Adam who was ridiculously high-school. Cody Horn who plays this character's sister reminds me of Julia Stiles.

Hodejegerne / Headhunters

Headhunters is a Norwegian thriller and as such has a lot of action, violence, a couple of nice twists, and some generous nudity. It's a fun watch and IMO, its best attribute in terms of its plot is that the baddie isn't aware of the second of two major threads that run concurrently throughout the movie. It's quite refreshing.

The direction is a bit dodgy in places as is the screenplay. But I recommend watching it if you enjoy the genre.

P.S. Bonus star for being Scandinavian.
