If you, like I was, are alarmed at the number of console-kit-daemon-s being listed by htop, calm yourself. It is a misrepresentation of threads as separate processes. To get a better view of what's going on, select "Setup" in htop and under "Display options", check the "Tree view" and "Display threads in a different colour" boxes and save the changes.
Now, if you swing back to the htop display, you should find that the deluge of console-kit-daemon-s are now displayed as threads rather than separate processes. Threads are subsets of their parent process and consequently only the values of the parent process ought to be taken into account while considering things like CPU and memory usage.
Hope this helps :)
