Trouble with the Curve

Submitted by Druss on Mon, 2012-12-10 13:24

While the setting is baseball, the story is primarily about the father-daughter relationship between Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. This unfortunately does not really work as well as it could have. However, the baseball bits are reasonably entertaining. Eastwood is just as grumpy as ever even if he's slowly becoming wan and transparent.

Watch if you like Eastwood or baseball.

Le concert

A weak plot, dull direction and good acting make this this French movie a real mixed bag. However, it is about music and classical music at that and I can overlook even Godzilla-sized issues for its sake. It is also a comedy and there are some moments of note. But all the whole, it really isn't all that funny.

Don't expect much out of this one and just enjoy it for the music.

Premium Rush

This is pure action entertainment which can hit the spot when done well and Premium Rush does an above par job on that. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is a nice fit in these types of roles and the whole delivery boy + bike with no brakes + Zen dialogue kind of works.

Recommended if you like fast-paced action, racing, tricks, and plots built around these three and nothing else.

Bourne Legacy, The

This is a spin-off from the excellent Bourne series with Matt Damon. This one has Jeremy Renner starring as a Bourne-like character albeit in a different project similar to Treadstone and Blackbriar. Thanks to the Bourne exposé, the CIA decides to shut down all other similar projects. This process involves liquidating all "samples" which includes Renner's character, Aaron Cross.

Lawless

While it has a number of positives, they are overwhelmed by the negatives. One of the former is the presence of Tom Hardy who is one cool fscker. One of the latter is the plot which is a little wishy-washy. The script is also not really all that great with the characters coming across as too hollow. However, what I really did not like about this movie was the presence of Shia LaBeouf who is probably the most annoying actor on the planet.

I would have given it one more star if it wasn't for Shiat.

Safe House

This movie tried to be 2012's Bourne Identity and falls woefully short. While it captures a bit of the same feel as the Bourne franchise, the script is just so idiotic that it becomes something of a painful watch after a while. I'd give it a 6 if it wasn't for retarded-ness of the stadium scene.

Total Recall

The setting is different from the original. But the story is roughly the same. That said, Colin Farrell was rubbish and the Kate Beckinsale character was tiresome.

Give it a miss.
